Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui on Friday said that he is hopeful of not having to play the less important roles in the year 2014.
Siddiqui was in Kolkata on Friday for the promotion of his upcoming film 'Miss Lovely'.
The film is a debut for both the director Ashim Ahluwalia and the female lead Niharika Singh.
Speaking on the delayed release of the film that has competed at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and has as well been screened in the Toronto International Film Festival, Ahluwalia said, "I had never expected the film to release in this country itself and that it would ever get an audience here."
"Moreover the cultural environment that existed here way back in 2012 did not really support independent filmmakers and on top of it as we have all noticed Nawaz got a commercial impetus with the recent times only," he added.
'Miss Lovely' narrates the story of the "Duggal Brothers who used to produce filthy and sordid sex-horror films in the mid 1980s."
The plot reveals the mutually corrosive relationship between the Duggal siblings among whom the younger one Sonu Duggal (played by Nawazuddin) gradually finds himself drawn into a mysterious young woman Pinky (played by Niharika) who ultimately leads to his downfall.
"I usually don't love making a Rs 200 crore popcorn movie," said Ahluwalia, who claimed that he has been greatly influenced by Bengali film makers Satyajit Ray and Ritwik Ghatak.
The film is scheduled for commercial release on January 17, 2014. The film might release in France and the U.S this year.
